April Devereaux, R.N. GPS School Nurse Awarded with Grant

April Devereaux, Guthrie Public Schools' Nurse, was recently awarded a grant from the Community Foundation of Central Electric Cooperative to purchase potentially life-saving kits.  "I am grateful for the Community Foundation of Central Electric Cooperative. This grant helped GPS purchase 42 bleeding control kits to place at all school sites.  Each vacuum-sealed kit includes a C-A-T tourniquet, 6" dressing, compressed gauze, trauma shears, 2 pairs of nitrile gloves, survival blanket, marker, and an instruction for use card," explains Devereaux.

GPS staff attended Stop the Bleed training in February during the District's professional development day.  Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign that trains bystanders to assist in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.  Having these bleeding control kits in our schools gives staff the tools they need for this type of emergency.
