New Check-In Kiosk System
Guthrie Public Schools Using New Check-In Kiosk System
Last spring, Guthrie parents may have noticed some new procedures when visiting schools. That was part of a test run with several different products for managing visitors to our schools as well as check-in procedures for students who are arriving late for various reasons.
All school sites now have a system obtained from School Safe ID. They are an Oklahoma based company that provided a similar service to many Oklahoma school districts as well as others across the nation. Visitors will be required to scan their driver’s license or state issued identification card in order to obtain a visitors badge to enter a building. That information will be compared to a national sex offender registry and a picture of the visitor will be taken. The picture will be printed on the badge as well as the time of entry and where they are permitted to visit. The visitor will then check out and return the badge. Visitors may also choose to have a badge pass sent to their mobile phone so that they can scan the pass each time they enter the building. This pass will also provide important information to the user when they are near the school site. Electronic records are kept of who is currently in the building visiting. Parents bringing their child after school has started will input the reason and the system will print a slip admitting the student to class late. A similar process is in place for parents checking a student out before dismissal.
Quotes from GPS Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson:
We are excited to be able to offer this added measure of safety for our children and staff. It is a very user friendly process and will allow us to easily monitor who is in our buildings.
