My name is Cara Henson. This is my 14th year to teach in Guthrie. I taught 6 years in first grade, 4 years in Kindergarten, and this is my 4th year teaching Pre-K. I married my husband in June of 2008, and in 2010 we had a son named Dane-11, I also have 3 amazing bonus-kids, Brandon-23, Maycie-22, Riley-21. We have 2 grand daughters and 1 grandson, Maliyah is 3 and Adalynn is a year and a half and Samuel is 2 months old. We are such a close family and I couldn't imagine my life without them. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up, but I had no desire to go to college. Thankfully after I graduated from Guthrie High School in 2000 I received at full time job with the local Early Head Start program. I really enjoyed taking care of babies and young children. It was the perfect job for me. After about 6 months of working there we were asked if we wanted to receive our Associates degree in Child development? Class was only going to be 1 night a week and it was going to be a Fast Track program, of course we said "yes". Once I received that degree I knew I could get my Bachelors degree and actually do what I always wanted to do. I applied to be a teacher's assistant for the Pre-K program here at Cotteral when I was 21 years old and I got the job. I began my night classes at the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated with my teaching degree in Early Childhood in December of 2007. I am so glad I took the step to get my degree, it has been the most rewarding job and I love getting up every morning and seeing my awesome students.
