Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new and exciting school year!  I am looking forward to working with you and your Kindergartener this year.  With love and respect, I will work extremely hard to address the needs of each individual child.  I am asking for your partnership to assist in your child’s progress and academic growth.

ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE:

CLASS BEGINS AT 8:15

Students should arrive to the classroom no later than 8:15am.  Students arriving after 8:15 will be counted as tardy and must check in through the office.  If your child will be eating breakfast at school, he/she should arrive between 7:30 and 8:00am.  After breakfast, all students are to go to the gym and remain there.  Students not eating breakfast and those who have finished eating will be picked up by the teacher at 8:05.  Please do not bring your child to school before 7:30, as no one will be on duty to supervise them.

CLASS IS DISMISSED AT 3:10

The way your child will be getting home must be on file.  If there are any changes, I must have a note or you must call the school office at 282-5928.

Please read and refer to the Car Rider Guidelines sheet you were provided at enrollment and follow the student drop off and pick up procedures closely.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS:

All coats, jackets, lunch pails, backpacks, along with any other personal items, should be clearly labeled with your child’s name.  This helps prevent the loss of personal items.  Students are not allowed to bring toys with them to school.

WEEKLY FOLDER:

A “Home to School” folder will be sent home with your child each Monday.  The left side of the folder will contain activity pages.  They tell you what we will be working on during the week and activities you can do at home to reinforce these skills.  In addition, there will be a High-Frequency Word Story to read with your child.  Please do not return these items.  Simply initial the reading log each week and return the folder on Friday.  You will continue to receive activity pages and stories as long as it is at least a four-day school week.  When holidays fall on a Monday, folders will be sent home on Tuesday.  When there is no school on Friday, return folders on Thursday.

The right side of the folder will contain parent notes/information.  Please check for forms needing parent’s signature, sign, and return.  This is my way of communicating with you on a regular and frequent basis.  Most notes will go home in this folder, but please check your child’s backpack DAILY for notes that cannot wait until folders go home.

MONEY/NOTES:

When sending money for any reason, please put it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, the teacher’s name, and what it is for.  I will ask children on a daily basis if they have anything for me, so please make your child aware of items (money/notes) you are putting in their backpacks for the teacher.  I will not be going through/checking their backpacks for items.

CLASS PARTIES and FIELD TRIPS:

We will have approximately 3 class parties and possibly 2 out-of-town field trips.  You will receive information prior to each.  If you are providing “goodie bags” for parties, I prefer they not contain any food or candy, as many times they are sent home with the children.  Food of any kind is not allowed on the buses.

BIRTHDAY TREATS:

If you wish to recognize your child’s birthday at school, please get with me to make arrangements.

Plan for a very busy, fun and exciting school year!  Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at 282-5928 to schedule a conference or email me at kim.thomason@guthrieps.net.

                                                          Sincerely,

                                                          Ms. Thomason
