7th & 8th  GRADE READING

MRS. STEVENSON  C-3

COURSE SYLLABUS

WELCOME: I am very excited to be back in the classroom, and hope to make this a fun year learning all the ins and outs of reading. My wish is that every student that passes through classroom door (C3) feels he or she walked into a world of respect, structure, learning, and collaboration. The parent and teacher team are a crucial part of a student's learning and I look forward to working with you. Please feel free to contact me via email at sheri.stevenson@guthrieps.net or you may call the school and leave a message and I will get back with you within 24 hours.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class will target students' growth in the areas of Reading. Collaboration, reflection, reading strategies, critical thinking skills, and vocabulary building are just a few of the areas we will focus on. The overall goal of this class is to increase the literacy and love of reading for students.

CLASSROOM LIBRARY: Reading is one of the most important skills your child will develop during their school years. In this class, your child will read, read, and read some more. We will do this collaboratively, independently, and as a class. Some reading will be required, but your child will also have the opportunity to choose his/her own book from my classroom library for independent reading. I try to have a variety of genres available for my students.

DISCIPLINE: Classroom interruptions will not be tolerated. In order for a student to learn and be successful, structure in the classroom is a must. If you need to get out of your seat, raise your hand. If you want to speak (during instruction), raise your hand. When we are in group discussion, it is imperative to stay on topic and be respectful. Detention will be used to deter negative behavior in the classroom. However, severe infractions that disrupt the learning of other classmates will result in a warning, redirection, then an office referral.

GRADING: Parents may sign up to view grades online. If you are unsure how to do this, please contact the Technology Department.

I have read, and understand the expectations in Mrs. Stevenson’s Reading class. I understand that it is my responsibility to make sure all work is completed and turned in on time. My success in reading class depends on how hard I work for it.
